서 론

한반도는 연평균기온이 지속적으로 상승하고 있으며, 2040년 연평균기온은 현재에 비해 1.8°C, 2100년의 연평균기온은 현재에 비해 7.0°C 상승할 것으로 전망된다(NIMS, 2020). 이러한 급격한 기후변화는 인류에게 공업, 어업 그리고 농업 등에 영향을 미칠 것이라 보고되었다(Lee 등, 2008; Mark, 2008). 농업은 고령화로 인한 노동력 부족, 물 및 에너지 부족과 더불어 지구 온난화로 인한 생산량 감소 등 종합적인 위기 상황이다(Jeong 등, 2020; Ji 등, 2019).

고온기 토마토 소비 증가로 연중 안정생산이 요구되고 있다. 2021년 기준 재배면적은 전년 대비 약9%, 평년 대비 3% 증가를 전망하였다. 생산량은 재배면적이 증가하여 전년 대비 약 10%의 증가를 전망하고 있다(Peet 등, 1997; KREI, 2022). 토마토와 같은 과채류 생산을 위한 여름철 냉방과 겨울철 난방이 필요한 경우 에너지 효율을 높이고자 하는 연구가 다양하게 이뤄지고 있다(Kawasaki 등, 2014; Kwack 등, 2014; Lee 등, 2006; Pascual 등, 2019). 냉난방 부하는 에너지 수요와 운영비를 결정하는 중요한 요인 중 하나이다. 여름철 동서 방향으로 위치한 온실이 남북으로 위치한 온실보다 냉난방 부하가 더 낮게 나타나 여름철에는 125kWh/day, 겨울철은 87kWh/day의 에너지가 절약됨을 확인하였다(Stanciu 등, 2016). 겨울철 난방 부하보다 여름철 냉방 부하가 높으며(Park 등, 2020; Suh 등, 2009), 고온기 냉방은 초기 설치 비용과 에너지 소모에 따른 운영 비용이 높아 작물의 적정 생육 온도로 온실 환경을 제어하는 데 어려움이 있다(Choi 등, 2014; Seo 등, 2011).

에너지 효율을 높여 경제적인 냉방을 하기 위해 낮은 온도의 양액을 공급하거나 근권부에 파이프를 매설하여 냉수를 순환시키는 국부 냉방이 각광을 받고 있다(Park 등, 1990). 온실 전체 난방과 비교하였을 때 국부 냉난방은 식물 생장을 촉진시킬 뿐만 아니라 개화 촉진, 품질향상과 냉난방에 소요되는 에너지 약 26% 감소시킬 수 있다(Kawasaki와 Yoneda, 2019; Park 등, 2021). 고온기 토마토 육묘 시 생육 적온은 주간 28-30°C, 야간 18°C로 알려져 있으며(RDA, 2020), 육묘 시 고온 장해는 생리장해, 도장 등을 유발할 수 있다(Bae, 2018; Cho 등, 2009). 토마토 근권부 온도 조절은 초장과 근장, 생체중과 건물중에 변화를 주었고 20-25°C의 근권부온도는 양분의 흡수를 증가시켰다.

토마토 근권부 온도 조절을 통해 초장과 근장, 생체중과 건물중을 증가 시킬 수 있을 것이라 판단하여 본 연구를 통해 토마토 묘 생산에 있어 근권부 냉방의 효과와 효율성을 확인하고자 하였다.

재료 및 방법

1. 실험재료 및 재배조건

본 실험은 2021년 7월 6일부터 8월 10일까지 36일간 공시품종 토마토(Solanum lycopersicum) ‘대프니스(Syngenta Korea, Korea)’를 이용하여 인공 환경 생장상(OS-SB2000, Onsol, Korea)에서 수행하였다. 생장상 내부 온도는 24시간 25°C로 설정하였다. 근권부 온도는 생장상 하부에 파이프를 설치하고 칠러를 이용하여 냉수를 순환 하는 방법으로 조절 하였다. 근권부 온도 20°C 처리구는 플러그트레이가 냉각 파이프와 맞닿게 하였으며, 25°C 처리구의 셀 트레이는 생장상 바닥 위 3.5cm에 위치 시켰다(Fig. 1Fig. 2). 페트리디쉬(90×15mm)에 필터페이퍼(90mm)를 깔고 증류수 5mL 분주하고 종자를 치상 하였다. 치상한 종자가 담긴 페트리디쉬는 기온 30°C, 24시간 암 조건에서 최아 하였다. 최아한 종자는 일반 상토(Eoulim, Shinsung Mineral Co., Korea)를 50공 트레이에 채워 수행하였다. 광원은 메탈할라이드였으며 광량은 80-100μmol∙m-2∙s-1이었다. 일장은 18시간으로 조절하였다. 관수는 파종 후 7일까지 상토가 충분히 포수될 수 있도록 저면 관수를 실시하였고, 이후에는 하루에 한 번씩 두상 관수하였다.

2. 조사항목

초장과 엽수는 파종 후 14일부터 7일 간격으로 4주간 조사하였다. 지상부와 지하부의 생체중과 건물중 그리고 엽면적은 파종 후 21일부터 7일 간격으로 3주간 조사하였다. 건물중은 생체중 측정 후 건조기(JSOF-250T, JSR, Korea)에 넣고 70°C로 72시간 건조한 후 측정하였다. 엽면적은 엽면적 측정기(LI-3100C, LI-COR Inc., USA)를 이용하였고 엽록소 함량은 엽록소 측정기(SPAD-502, Konica Minolta, Inc., Japan)를 이용하여 측정하였다.

3. 통계처리

시험구 배치는 난괴법으로 처리당 실험구 4반복으로 수행하였다. 그래프는 Sigmaplot 12.5(Systat Software, USA)를 사용하여 작성하였다. 통계 분석은 SPSS 20.0(IBM, USA)을 이용하여 95%의 신뢰수준에서 t-검정하였다.

결과 및 고찰

근권부 온도 조절에 따른 토마토 초장은 파종 후 14일 근권부 온도 20°C에서 7.4cm, 25°C는 8.6cm의 결과로 처리에 따른 유의적인 차이가 없었다(Fig. 3). 토마토의 근장 또한 전 생육기간동안 처리구에 따른 유의적인 차이가 없었다. 토마토는 근권 온도 20°C 이하와 30°C 이상의 온도에서 뿌리 생육뿐만 아니라 양수분 흡수에도 영향을 미쳐 근권부 생육 적온은 25°C라고 하였으며(Tindall 등, 1990), 뿌리 생육이 양수분 흡수와 관련하여 지상부 생육에 영향을 미친다고 보고 되었다(Mizuno 등, 2022).

토마토 묘의 엽수는 생육 기간 동안 근권부 온도 20°C와 25°C 처리구간 유의한 차이를 나타내지 않았다(Fig. 4). Huh등(2001)의 연구결과에 따르면 근권부 온도를 무가온, 10°C, 15°C, 25°C로 처리한 토마토의 경우 근권부 온도가 25°C와 가까워질수록 토마토의 지상부 생육이 유의하게 증가하였다. 토마토의 근권부 적정 온도로 알려진 20°C-25°C 내에서 20°C와 25°C의 생육 차이가 보이지 않았으며, 냉방 에너지 효율을 고려하였을 때 25°C의 에너지 효율이 더 높을 것으로 판단한다.

토마토 묘의 엽면적은 파종 후 28일 20°C 19.2cm2, 25°C 30.0cm2로 근권부 온도 25°C처리구에서 더 넓었다. 파종 후 35일 근권부 온도 20°C 41.2cm3, 25°C 34.4cm3로 20°C의 엽면적이 넓었으나 처리에 따른 통계적인 차이는 없었다. Lee 등(2002)은 근권부 온도 25°C 이상이 조건에서 뿌리의 호흡이 증가하여 생육이 불량해진다고 하였다.

파종 후 21일 토마토 지상부의 생체중은 근권부 온도 20°C와 25°C의 처리구 간 유의한 차이를 나타내지 않았다(Fig. 5). 파종 35일 경과 시 20°C 4.88g, 25°C 5.51g으로 근권부 온도 25°C의 처리구의 지상부 생체중이 더 컸으나 통계적인 차이를 보이지 않았다. Noh(1997)는 토마토 생육 초기에는 뿌리 발달을 위해 21°C 이상으로 관리하는 것이 좋다고 하였다. 따라서 추후 다양한 근권온도에서의 토마토 묘 생육에 대한 연구가 필요할 것으로 생각된다.

토마토 지하부의 생체중과 건물중은 지상부의 생체중, 건물중과 비슷한 경향을 나타냈다(Fig. 6). Dalton 등(1997)은 근권부 온도를 18°C와 25°C로 설정하여 실험하였을 때 지상부와 지하부의 생육이 비슷한 경향을 보였으며 18°C보다 25°C의 건물중이 더 높았다고 보고하였다.

엽록소 함량은 파종 후 21일 20°C 33.18, 25°C 37.84로 처리구 간 유의적인 차이를 확인하였다(Fig. 7). 하지만 파종 후 28일부터 처리구 간 유의적인 차이가 나타나지 않았다. 재배 기간이 경과함에 따라 근권부 온도 25°C에서 재배된 토마토의 엽록소 지수가 감소폭이 컸다. 생육 초기의 근권부 온도는 엽록소 함량에 영향을 미쳤으나, 시간 경과에 따라 근권부 온도는 엽록소 함량에 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 나타났다. Odhiambo 등 (2018)은 후추 재배 시 근권부의 낮은 온도는 저온 스트레스를 야기하여 엽록소 함량 감소를 초래한다는 연구와 일치하였다. 엽록소는 광합성에 영향을 미치는 중요한 요소 중 하나이며(Woo 등, 2004), 근권부 온도는 지상부 생육뿐만 아니라 광합성에도 영향을 미치고 하여 광합성산물의 분배, 영양 및 식물의 전체적인 생육 등에 영향을 미친다(Kim 등, 2010; Li 등, 2015). 토마토의 영양생장기 적온은 18-25°C이며, 과방의 출현은 17-27°C로 온도가 올라갈수록 선형적으로 증가한다고 알려져 있다. 주간 온도가 25ºC에서 16ºC로 낮아지면 광합성 감소가 보고되었다(Venema 등, 1999a, 1999b). 주간온도가 19ºC로 동일한 경우 야간 온도가 14ºC에서 6°C로 감소하여도, 잎 면적 기준으로 순 광합성에 영향을 미치지는 않았다(Van de Dijk와 Maris, 1985). 가지과 작물인 토마토의 경우 영양생장과 생식생장이 동시에 진행되는 특성을 갖고 있으며, 온도에 따른 작물의 반응은 평균온도와 독립적으로 반응한다고 보고되었다(De Koning, 1990). 생육 초기의 근권부 온도가 엽록소 함량에 영향을 미친 이유는, 토마토를 포함한 대부분의 작물이 생육 적온의 온도를 벗어날 경우, 작물은 환경에 적응하기 위하여 광합성 기구와 특히 광합성에 직접적으로 영향을 미치는 엽록소를 분해하여, 2차 대사산물의 합성을 증가시킨다(Kim 등, 2018; Kim 등, 2020). 고온에 의한 막 구조의 이동성 문제를 해결하고, 저온에 의한 효소 활성의 저하뿐만 아니라 광조건 하에서의 광저해를 방지하고자 하는 반응이다(Lee 등, 2016). 환경에 적응한 이후에 엽록소 함량이 변하지 않은 것도 이 때문이라 판단한다. 기존의 연구에 따르면 토마토의 경우 고온 스트레스는 최적온도 보다 10-15°C 높을 때 발생하였으며(Wahid 등, 2007), 10°C의 저온조건에서 엽록소 분해와 2차 대사산물의 증가를 통해 생존율을 높였다(Barrero‐Gil 등, 2016).
